Cleaning your mattress seems like a hectic job to do since you can’t put it in the washer along with your bedding. So most of the time, you end up covering your mattress with clean sheets and feel like the job is done. But, your mattress needs some attention too. You don’t have to rely on expensive cleaners or hire a cleaner to clean your mattress for you. All you need is some baking soda. You usually find this ingredient lying around in your kitchen. You can use it to bake different items, scrub your face and body, and to clean your teeth. And, this amazing multipurpose ingredient does a great job at cleaning your mattress as well.

Your mattress may seem visibly clean, but since you sleep on it every night, the accumulation of your dead skin cells and moisture from your sweat can lead to a buildup of bacteria and other germs. Wouldn’t you rather go to sleep on a bed that is completely clean instead of something that just looks clean? By using baking soda on a regular basis, you can relax on your bed and fall asleep without having to worry because baking soda has a significant ability to kill various strains of bacteria and other germs. It also removes odors and dust mites that may be interfering with your sleep.

The Ingredients Required To Clean Your Mattress

The first thing you need to get is a 16-ounce box of baking soda. Then get your favorite essential oil to make your bed smell great and a vacuum cleaner to clean up the mess afterward.

What Do You Need To Do?

Toss your bedding, duvets, or feather beds in the washer. Then, grab hold of your mattress and flip it or rotate it, which you might already be in the habit of doing to prevent sagging. Open a box of baking soda, add 10 to 20 drop of a lovely smelling essential oil, close the box, and give it a good shake to distribute the essential oil evenly. Now, sprinkle the entire box of baking soda over your bed. You can even use a sieve to prevent the baking soda from forming clumps. Using your hands, rub the mixture into your bed to make sure it goes in deep. Let it sit for about an hour for the baking soda and essential oil to do their trick. While you wait, you can wipe the walls around your bed and the bed frame to get rid of the germs in your entire sleeping area and not just your bed. Then vacuum the mattress slowly until all the baking soda has been removed. The mixture will have gotten rid of the dirt residue, bacteria,  and the moisture. You can then remake your bed for a good night’s sleep.

Can You Get Rid Of Stains Using Baking Soda?

If your mattress has stains, do not use fluid cleaners to get rid of them as fluid cleaners tend to saturate your mattress, causing mold or mildew to form. Instead, spray some vinegar over the stain, sprinkle baking soda over it, and cover it with a towel for 1 to 2 hours. Then vacuum up the baking soda. You will be surprised to see how well this method gets rid of the stains, and it does not damage your mattress in any way.
